From closed to open access!

The Medical College Librarian is excited about the changes to service delivery now increasingly apparent in the LRC!

Summer break....means no rest!

Summer in Vietnam and plenty to do at the LRC! Liaison activities continue to increase with successful presentations at 2 colleges this week. Academic staff continue to demonstrate an interest and need for databases and e-resources. Students and staff are enjoying the atmosphere and the new cafe which serves a great iced coffee and modest but tasty lunches!! The next few weeks will see an increase in activity as LRC staff prepare for the new academic year and a potential 10,000 new students joining the University and the LRC.

small steps...long journey

After several months of operation the LRC is now providing a range of services to the TNU University Community. Around 650 visits per day, with 3,500+ student and staff cards produced. We have introduced VN databases and there has been a vast improvement to the number of books on the shelves with circulation figures increasing daily....small steps... long journey to success!

Opening Ceremony a success!!

With the extremely successful opening ceremony behind us we are now open and operating the LRC. Staff are rostered to work on the 4 service desks, circulation, information on level 2 and 3 and audio visual services. With only a few students in the first week we have had plenty of time for practice and review.
Students continue to attend weekend sessions despite the opening hours being fixed for the next 6 weeks at 7.30am – 4.30 pm Monday to Friday.
We have had our share of teething problems but hope that all will settle down soon and the LRC will draw many enthusiastic students and staff from the surrounding colleges.
Work continues on our website, discipline and database guides, setting up new audio visual equipment and selecting and ordering new material.

3 working days to go !!

With 3 working days to go, preparation for the opening is in full swing. All (41) staff including cleaning and security are assigned tasks that will ensure the ceremony is smooth and professional. With last minute service desk refresher sessions and final touches to the building works the LRC should operate as planned. A sneak preview of the day’s events include a photographic exhibition, dancing and singing by local artists, and a book fair hosted by FAHASA all of which will compliment the excellent artifacts and textiles from the 54 Traditions gallery.

What progress!!

Now back in Thai Nguyen – Paul and I are very pleased with the progress TNU LRC team have made as they prepare for the grand opening on the 21st November.
Students are receiving skills and information literacy sessions, regular classes are held on the weekends with many Information Services staff involved. Information Technology staff are currently undergoing training in Windows MSCE, while creating student cards, and maintaining network. Cleaners are busy and Security is in place. Administration staff are working hard maintaining the building, receiving equipment, books and stationary and Information Resources staff are now preparing periodicals for shelving. A long way to go – but all very impressive!
